The context

Founded in 1963, Idex is a French player in energy efficiency organized around two poles of activity. The first operates 50 districts of heating and cooling networks, 11 incineration and methanation plants, 150 biomass boilers and other geothermal activities. The second offers energy efficiency services (management of thermal installations in buildings, optimization of production equipment). The third in French energy efficiency services, with a turnover of €860 million and over 4,000 employees.

The program in a few words

The Yumana platform allowed Idex to collect ideas from all the Group’s employees. The digital tool has made it possible to centralize and implicate all Idex employees, bringing together headquarters, regional management and the field team on the same platform.

The participation objective has been achieved, and now it is a matter of spreading this culture of innovation within the group, thanks to the platform, and organizing other ideation challenges or going further in supporting these ideas once they emerge.

The challenge

In 2020, Idex launches their very first innovation challenge. The objective is to engage a maximum number of employees in a process of innovation and to help innovative ideas emerge. For this first edition, the challenge was to mobilize employees around 3 key themes for the company: new products and services for customers, improvement of their existing practices, and technical innovation.

Yumana’s solution

IdeXplorer, the innovation platform, was designed to centralize all the ideas proposed by employees and the head office, the regional departments and the field on a single platform.

The program has three phases:

  • A month-long idea submission phase (february 2020)

  • A voting phase

    A two-week phase during which each employee has a total of 12 ‘lightbulbs’ to vote for the ideas of their choice, with a maximum of 3 ‘lightbulbs’ per idea.

  • A pitch phase

    The 12 ideas most favored by employees and the jury are selected for the pitch phase. Finally, 4 ideas are awarded prizes (3 jury prizes and the employee popularity prize).

    The 4 winners, in addition to rewards, will be supported in the development of their project and will be able to join the Group’s innovation unit.
