Challenge

As a global leader operating across 120 countries, VINCI faces a dual challenge: reducing its environmental footprint while mobilizing a highly decentralized workforce.

While thousands of initiatives were emerging locally, the Group needed a way to identify what worked, evaluate environmental impact, and scale best practices across business units.

Strategy & Goals

VINCI aimed to engage more than 200,000 employees in its environmental transition, identify the most impactful initiatives emerging across its regions, and accelerate the deployment of those solutions across all business lines.

To meet these goals, the Group launched WE NOW, its global environmental program, and created the Environment Prize to bring structure, visibility, and momentum to thousands of local actions.

Organizing an Award was the perfect operating model to capture ideas, evaluate their environmental potential, and scale the most promising projects throughout the organization.

Together with VINCI, Yumana deployed its best practices management software to power the entire program:

  • A multilingual platform accessible to all types of employees, from field workers to support teams;
  • A structured workflow guiding the entire journey from submission to evaluation to scaling;
  • And a dedicated adoption module that tracks real-world deployment and measures the environmental performance of each initiative.

Through this joint approach, VINCI moved from intention to measurable environmental action, transforming scattered local solutions into a structured program with measurable impact.

How the Program Works

A clear, four-phase journey structured on the Yumana platform ensured transparency, engagement, and repeatability.

  1. Capture Phase
    Open to all employees for five months, the phase invited teams to submit initiatives on climate, circularity or biodiversity, resulting in thousands of contributions from both field and office employees worldwide.
  2. Evaluation Phase
    The selection unfolded in two stages, beginning with regional voting on the platform to shortlist the most impactful initiatives, followed by expert evaluations, remote pitch sessions, and the final awards.
  3. Deployment Phase
    Winning initiatives are supported to scale across the Group, while Yumana’s adoption module tracks their deployment project by project and replicability kits equip teams to implement best practices efficiently.
  4. Measurement of Environmental Performance
    VINCI then enters an impact-tracking phase to assess the long-term benefits of each initiative, using metrics such as implementation time, maturity level and overall impact on sustainability KPIs to guide prioritization.
